Bass Tournaments

Whitney
Throughout the year

What began in 1955 in Whitney as a local tournament has since grown into a sport where prizes can now reach hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Bass Tournaments

Just a few years after Lake Whitney was impounded, Earl Golding, working for a Waco newspaper, came up with the idea of a friendly competition among bass anglers.  That first ever bass tournament drew 73 teams. The event, and the beginning of the sport, has since been recognized with a Texas Historical Commission marker on the shoreline at Lake Whitney State Park.

From that beginning, the sport has grown, and Lake Whitney continues to be a top spot for bass fisherman to compete.  Each season, you’ll find a number of tournaments making a stop here.  Beginning anglers, and seasoned veterans, test their skills against each other to see who can take home top honors, whether it’s bragging rights for the day, a trophy, or a cash prize.
