Wildlife and bird hunting are popular sports within the area. Deer, turkey, dove, quail, and duck are some of the more abundant game found here.
Each January, the State Park hosts a Muzzleloader (black powder only) hunt over a 2-1/2 day period. Call the park at 254-694-3793 for more information.
Beside numerous private hunting areas, approximately 14,000 acres in parts of Bosque and Hill Counties are available for public hunting. There are two websites with maps and policies on hunting on Public Lands around Lake Whitney - one from the Corps, and the other from TAMU.
