Monarch Butterfly Nature Festival art display

Last Saturday in April

Each spring, Cherokee Village Resort hosts a lakeside festival to celebrate nature, especially the Monarch butterfly which migrates through the Lake Whitney area at this time of year. Both real-life and photographic exhibits feature the butterfly in all its stages of life, from egg to caterpillar, to the transparent pupa, and finally the butterfly.

You can also walk through a wildflower garden, with plants that are especially attractive to butterflies. Other nature displays include many of the fossils found in the area, especially the ammonites.

Monarch Butterfly Nature Festival face painting

Especially for the kids, there is face painting, and a nature scavenger hunt for them to locate and identify plants and win prizes. Kids and adults alike enjoy hiking along the trails down to the lakeside dock, or viewing the numerous peacocks that make their home on the grounds of this nature-minded resort.

A local restaurant sets up a stand, where you can purchase lunch or a snack. Take time to enjoy your meal in the covered pavilion, or outdoors on picnic tables with butterfly-attracting centerpieces.

Artists setup booths with paintings, photography, and more, emphasizing the local flora and fauna. They enjoy talking with visitors to the festival about their artwork, and about the nature that inspires it.

Dates and times subject to change. It is recommended that you confirm these with the event organizer.
